High heat points meant lots of different racers to challenge. It was very important to show up to race and finish every heat without mishap or DQ from making contact. Points charts were in the kart showroom at the track so all visitors/racers could see the points and all the drivers names.
More racers that showed up to race in your class would mean more points added to the overall championship run.
A win in a field of 60 drivers in your heat would give you 60 heat points.
There would be 3 heats on a race day.
(one warning sometimes, there was no plastic protection back then)
You did not want a DQ, DNF or DNS next to your name on that points chart
It was the other place where you would meet up with competitors.
Lots of pit racing done there!
