Posted by kartguy on 6/11/2007, 5:46 pm Each heat awarded karters with heat points which placed them in final grid order in the third and final heat. Those totaled point of the day would then be added to our season points run.
In the early 70's Honda 4 stroke sprint kart racing in Ontario never used qualifying to determin starting position.
All race days had 3 races (heats) plus lots of practice time.
The first race of the year, all would pick a number from a hat and that would determin first race and first heat grid position.
The second heat was determined by the position you finished in the first heat.
Although, the field would now be reversed.
Last place would start first and first place would start last.
The winners of the day were the karters with the highest points.
Weekly heat sprint races were 8 , 10 and 12 lappers.
No drops.
Point Leaders would always start at the back in race two and sew on.
This was the first and only Honda 4 cycle club at that time.
With lots of new karters buying Canadian kart products quickly.
Today's karting is very different.
