There is something fundamentally wrong when DKI aka Downtown Kalamazoo Inc, a quazie-governmental/Non Profit, sees fit to have children paint a bar. In cooperation with DKI, The Boys and Girls Club evidently provided child labor to paint a wall size mural on the Home Bar on Portage Street. Concerned parents and relatives sat in Premier Mortgage Funding Inc's downtown parking lot, under the hot sun; to "make sure" the children did not go in the bar to use the restroom. Even channel 3 News showed up to air the atrocity of the situation with a positive spin. The final insult occurred on Thursday August 4, 2005. DKI had a celebration party for the Kids N Bars type event. Even Mayor Robert Jones was present to celebrate kids painting a bar. Kids and bars do not go together, PERIOD. 144
