Posted by Jeffrey Alan Messer It is interesting to note Walgreens has built 4 new Kalamazoo area locations in recent years while Rite Aid closed 2, Westwood Plaza and East Main, last year. With all the local and nationwide growth of pharmacies, it's interesting Rite Aid is closing stores and opening no new ones. Meijer has responded to this trend by remodeling their West Main and Westnedge stores, featuring pharmacies relocated to the front of the store and the addition of pharmacy drive-thrus. ABC News had an interesting Brian Ross investigation into pharmacy errors attributed to this explosive growth.

The new Walgreens on Westnedge at Milham in Portage will be opening this Friday, April 20. A funeral home was the previous occupant of this site. Sometime soon, the Walgreens a mile south on Westnedge at Romence should be closing. Otherwise, there would be three Walgreens in 2 miles, with the construction of another new Walgreens on Shaver at Centre. 135
