Dollar Tree West Main has added a frozen foods section. I didn't see any good deals in there, which is true for most of the store. It's a better deal to buy a larger quantity of something at another store, except for the brand name overstock items which can also be found at Big Lots, which has removed their frozen foods section in Kalamazoo. Dollar Tree's frozen White Castle cheeseburgers might be a deal. They are 2 for $1. I think Meijer's regular price is $3.49, which would be 2 for $1.16. Wal-Mart West Main continues construction on their grocery store. This means the west side of Kalamazoo will soon have three super centers. This is consistent with the rumor I heard that Meijer West Main is the (or one of the) most profitable Meijers in Michigan. I don't know when the Wal-Mart grocery will open, but if it is consistent with when the other Kalamazoo Wal-Marts opened, it will be during the winter, after Xmas. The Gull Road Wal-Mart opened on March 15, 2003, the same day the current Iraq invasion began. Wal-Mart West Main opened in about February 2004. Shaver Road Wal-Mart opened in late January 2005. Meijer West Main has moved their bulk foods from the middle of the grocery section to near the dairy case at the back. It may have been this way for a while for all I know. I haven't been shopping at Meijer West Main much since they finished remodeling and adding a pharmacy drive-thru last year. I'm seeing tv ads for the Centerpointe Mall (formerly the Eastbrook Mall) in the Grand Rapids suburb of Wyoming. I notice their exterior remodeling looks a lot like the Maple Hill Pavilion; Maple Hill Mall before the remodeling. I hear lifestyle center is the new industry term for shopping plaza and strip mall. In some states, sales taxes are suspended for the back-to-school season, particularly on clothing. It would be nice for Michigan to do this as well. It's things like that which have made back-to-school a busier shopping season than Xmas.
