Let's beat the nicobeast together!
Posted by Ann on 2/3/2002, 2:38 pm If we WANT to quit smoking, then we're still undecided. If we WANT to be a nonsmoker, then we're not there yet! If we tell ourselves over and over that quitting is HARD, then unless we're fibbing to ourselves, it will and should be hard. If we think we MIGHT slip down the road, we will slip. If we keep telling ourselves that there's a CHANCE we'll fail, we will fail. If we truly BELIEVE that smoking isn't an option, then it just isn't. Once we truly BELIEVE ourselves a nonsmoker, then we are. We are what we think! Attitude is 99% of our quit. Our quit cups can be half empty or half full. We can celebrate the passing of each crave as bringing us one crave closer to freedom, or we can dread their very arrival. We can call it Hell Week or remane it Glory Week. We can view our quit as an hourly and daily celebration of one of our greatest accomplishments ever, or it can be our very own personal hell. In fact, we can even rename it from our "Quit" to our "START", for isn't this where our new life begins? There are only two options: smoke or don't smoke. There is NO in-between. Just one puff, one fix and the addict within each of us is either back to withdrawal or living in full relapse. I wish you all luck! Breathe deep, hug hard, live long! QuitNet
Attitude will make or break your quit. If you are suffering from GIVING UP A FRIEND things will be tough. If you are REJOICING in a new freedom, keeping your quit will be easier. This is the season of general rejoicing, don't let yourself down!
