Concrete is the best by far. You have to seal it with a sealer and put a horse stall matt in there to take into count for the hard surface. Keeping a number of dogs on anything else is not only a lot of trouble but your asking for trouble. It makes for a breeding ground of bacterias, fungus, and contagious diseases. Not to mention just the simple stuff like intestinal parasites and cochedia, giardia, etc. I have had no problems with using concrete to kennel my dogs as long as you give them a horse stall mat to stand on and let them out to run for a few hours a day.
Treated wood will cause a lot of problems. They treat would with a chemical and it will cause skin problems. Being that this is a breed known for skin problems I wouldn't want to add to it.
Cleaning the kennels is much easier which keeps it simple to keep out the bad crap. If I wasn't going to put my dogs on concrete, or I didn't have a choice, I would put them on grass/dirt before anything other than concrete. If you didn't have the problems of the stuff named above grass/dirt would be the way to go.
I think covered kennels make a big difference too. JMO but it is based on a lot of years of experience using and trying several different ways. If you ever get a contagious disease on your yard no matter how big or small and cant get rid of it you'll wish you had concrete kennels too.
AS for it hurting there joints well I agree somewhat but I kennel my dogs about 16-20 hrs a day sometimes, sometimes a lot less though, depending on the rotation in the run lot, but I hip check my dogs and I don't have any that are crapping out from being on concrete.
