Your right JP about the silent heat but a male will still tell you when one is in heat, most of the time. I have a b###h that is 18 1/2 months old and has been with a males since she was 6 weeks old and not one time have they shown interest in breeding her so they can also go that long or longer without having one. I also have a girl that has long heats and you have to progesterone test her to know when she's dropping eggs. She bleeds heavy for 13-15 days and then starts dropping eggs. If you were an old timer you would start trying to breed her on the 10 or 11th day and do it every other day until the 16th or 17th day. You might miss her eggs dropping if you stopped too early. Every female is different and every situation that there in is different too and it does have an effect on when they come into heat.
