I know I am a standard girl but I tell my situation to anyone that will listen lol as I dont want anyone to fall into the problem we have haha. I would say anytime after 10 mos they can start but would not be concerned about a dog that has not had a first heat before 2.. however I know that my dog is not the norm by any means and many look at me shocked that this can even happen. But watch your females and males after that 10 month mark for changes in behavior. My female heats silently. when she was around 9-10 months we noticed the males acting weird so figured she was coming into her first cycle, when it never came we thought nothing of it, about 6 months later same thing, again still young not thinking about it but a little more mythed. Each time we just watched and separated.Figured she was just young. 6 months later males with no real change in anyones behavior we were getting ready for our show and busy, call to the kitchen MOM Wrigley and Ivy are tied in the back yard. 60 days later 6 beatiful oops puppies. We were hoping it would straigten out, but 6 months later same dog on top of her crate howling. There is never any blood or swelling to speak of, just crazy male bulldogs and Ivy standing at her crate 11 days after thisstarts with her butt up against it. Some of you may read this thinking wow thats awesome no mess.. no it SUCKS thankfully she is like clock work so we know when to watch for it now, but with the no bleeding we have no idea when she comes in and when she comes out. huge pain in the ass.
