When I started back in 1985 having ONE prespray and ONE rinse agent would have been beyond luxury.
You newcommers don't know you are born! The only carpet-specific products available were 1001 and a handful of shampoos.
The very first extraction machine I ever saw was the first one I built.
As to training, I had passed 'A'level physics, chemistry and biology and started a degree course in electrical engineering which was truncated by being recruited to the design team for front-loading washing machines. This I supplemented by spending time with an upholsterer, carpet fitter and (yes) a very technically-minded hair dresser. (where I leaned much of what I knew about wool!).
Then came many hours of experimentation.
Though I spend much time advising people within and about to enter the industry to attend as many training course as possible (the best being conducted by your good self), I feel that the uphill route provides a better understanding of the necessary processes.
And yes, the Gorgeous One is SO much prettier!!!
