Yes, we learned from experience but, back in those days, our lives were so much simpler. From the very few chemical manufacturers supplying rinse/extraction products, we typically had a choice of one prespray (once they had been invented) and one in-tank cleaner. There were probably only one or two types of spotter available and solvents tended to be passed over from the garment dry-cleaning industry.
New entrants to our industry these days will have, for them, a bewildering array of systems, equipment and product from a myriad of suppliers, all telling them that their's is the simplest/best/most powerful/quickest there is and is so easy to use and that it will earn them $$$$$ the very first day they fire it up.
No Ed, it's a much more complex industry and world today than when I started.
