Now, let me make one thing clear, I am not against "learning" of any kind; taking classes, asking questions if one does not know something, r any thing else related to ones profession.
But, having stated that, I was just thinking about some of us "old-timers", like myself, Lord John Bolton, and a hand full of others. Many of us "old-Timers" have become mentors and educators for hundreds, even thousands of other in this great industry. We teach then, mentor them, and educate them how to do this and that; what not to do; even suggestions on how to run their businesses.
Here is what I am getting at: Where did we learn all this information from? Who taught us? My personal experience and answer is simple: NO ONE!
Back when this industry (HWE) was brand spanking new, you had to mentor yourself and learn. Oh we occasionally made a mistake however they were far and few between otherwise we would not still be in business! We had to research ourselves and could not rely on anyone else. There were no Carpet Cleaning Boards. Heck, there were few computers too!
Sometimes I just have to wonder if in todays world (not putting anyone down, please) did we use our brains more to solve our own problems? Have many gotten lazy today and is it easier not to think but just pick up the phone and throw their problem at someone else instead? Heck, many d not even read the manuals before they use their equipment let alone if they have a problem!Instead, pick up that phone!!
IMHO, and experience, I firmly believe that the "Old-Timers" such as Lord JB graduated from the University of Hard Knocks. He, as a great example, has the answers and solutions to just about anything or situation one could ever have or ask! Well, then, why can't others too?
Just Think about it.
