I stopped preparing home-made chemicals last Millenium. The formal and legal issues are too great and also, some boffin with a Phd knows so much more than me when it comes to assessing the safety, stability, enviromental etc. issues and I wouldn't know where to start and I certainly wouldn't know how to write an accurate MSDS sheet.
I have, however, used raw ingredients. Sodium Metabisulphite as a reducer. Distilled vinegar for tea and coffee stains and as a dye fixative. Hydrogen peroxide and ammonia. Choose the right source and brands and you can easily download the safety data sheets so that you don't have problems with the authorities. Didn't have one for the vinegar though. I kept that in my van to add to my fries at lunchtime
