Most underlay/pad is flat crumb or synthetic rubber and the rucking you describe is commonplace here too.
We also have a carpet we call Belgian Wilton. A loosish weave with olefin face yarn. Has been known to shrink within days of installation, just from atmospheric moisture. These days it is recommend not to stretch at installation, just cut and tuck in around the edges. But each time you clean one, your butt cheeks are clinched pretty tight!
