I dont know what to say Rob, I would'nt have offered to replace half right off the bat, She would have to work harder for that out of me,
I would still argue whats the carpet's value before you started working on it, That means if she put it out on the front yard at a garage sale whats the value of it...If you have a 10 year old nylon why give her half of a new one...
I would also take into effect if that carpet is 10 years old or whatever age, I would only give half of "That" value, Not current cost of carpet in todays market,
If this is the case then I would be happy to go to court and let them determin the value of this, I would also sit down with a attorney and talk matters over....
If its one Bedroom thats one thing, But a whole house is another, Keep in mind if you didnt clean the whole house, I wouldnt be replacing it either, My gut tells me there has to be a better way in this,
I wish you the best and HIGHLY suggest you get a appointment with a attorney, In the end you might be hung out to dry, But it wouldnt be without a major fight either..
Jim
