Generator

I have 2 more questions about getting a backup generator. Someone an hour away has a Titan generator with 8400 surge watts and 7200 running watts. Any opinions on this brand? Also, if it doesn't have a splitter cord to help balance the load. Can I buy one and just plug it in or are they brand/model specific?
