I use a 50 gallon fresh tank everyday. For a while I had it 6-8 feet away from the Recoil so I bought longer hose at the hardware store and replaced the the Blue and Yellow. It works fine either way.
Purging air: If you turn off the pump while you have the blue hose out of water, you can probably purge any air by just holding the wand valve open for a minute or less when you turn the pump back on. If you forget to turn the pump off, you might need to turn the psi knob down very low and slowly increase the psi (pia).
