Jim brings up a great question really. (Ofcourse, after working at GM for 22 years +, no wonder!!)
That could eventually have caused pump failure with a few pump motors in the past perhaps. However, less likely with the "2nd Generation" (like Jim & Rickie has). But, every Operator should make it a policy to relieve the pump pressure prior to disconnect. This takes pressure/stress off the motor on start-up.
