Geoff I have the two tanks also. I seldom use the aux fresh water tank unless I am on a big job, still, I like having it on the van.
I run an astro van. It has the metal divider between the seats and the cargo area. That leaves 7 feet from front to back. I made the stackabel racks a couple years ago, long before they were pictured here. Just used angle iron welded together. Here's how it fits in the astro
The two tanks, stacked, sitting behind the drivers seat facing the rear. I have a hose with PVC made to fit in the dump valve, and I run that out the back when dumping. Next to the tanks, behind the passenger seat, is the 7800 watt generator, a Troy Built going on two years now. These two items take up half the space.
Behind the generator sits the recoil 3, also facing the rear. Next to the recoil, and and in front of the tanks, are my hoses coiled up tight. I have a 50 ft 2in, and 2 50 ft 1 1/2s. I also have a couple of short sections of hose in case I just need them, along with my three 50 ft solutions hoses. Also two 50 ft garden hoses for fillups.
So now I have the tanks, the generator, the hoses, and the recoil. In front of the recoil, off to the side just a little is the Little Giant heater. Next to that I carry the booster. Next to the booster is my sprayer, and next to the sprayer is my propane bottle, which along with the booster and sprayer, come out on the job. I set my propane outside. I had a seven ft hose made for it just for that purpose.
It's a tight fit but it works great for me. The only downside is that I do take out all the hoses on every job just because I like to let my van have better air circulation because of the heat from the generator. But it only take what, two minutes to throw it all back in?
I don't think I would gain much by not carring the aux fresh water tank.
Oh yea, the wand and rake sit on top of everything, and the chemicals fit on a shelf on the side of the tanks. I carry a fan/blower either under the hoses, or most likely, in the front seat.
If I had a full sized van I would have all kinds of room!
