There is a wonderful issue of the journal Science that contains an informative summary special section on the origin of man: 2October, Volume 326. Also contains articles on newest fossil Ardipithecus ramidus. Bruce Alberts, Editor-in-Chief, in his editorial, p17 states “We thus can be certain scientists will eventually obtain a rather detailed record showing how the anatomy of the human body evolved over many millions of years.” This statement he backs up with evidence from paleoanthropology, genetics, genomics, biochemistry, and comparative organismal biology. I am impressed by the detail in the series of articles and pictures of the fossils, fossil sites – methods and more. There is a two page table “The assembly of shared derived characters among early hominid taxa”. A great reference for everyone interested in the subject. Enjoy!
