I was in France last year and really enjoyed the reds I drank there. Every supermarket had rows of wines and beers as did the UK. A much more civilised idea I reckon.
Only recently I tried an Argy malbec and found it superb. Wish I could remember the name but it wasnt at all expensive.
As for muscats etc. I totally agree with you again. Years ago the only plonk we found drinkable in Stanthorpe were the fortifieds, esp. the muscats. Some were absolutely fantastic and up there with some of the Rutherglen examples. I thought Brown Bros. were the biggest name in that regard along with Morris'? Not sure.
Since then the standard of Stanthorpe wine has increased out of sight. We intend to do another trip down there again this year.
