Thanks for the reply Walter, I appreciate your time.
However, I have some trouble with the answer. The problem is likely on me for the way I worded the question.
What I was going after specifically was some kind of evidence or test where ID would pass and creationism would fail. The idea being that if both theories explain the data equally well then neither is wrong (or right).
As for the part about no one wanting to claim the creationist thing anymore, that is a little personal bias on my sample. /the people I talk to about this stuff are smart but generally not predisposed to the YEC viewpoint. Surely there are YECers out there but that view seems less popular than it once did.
Not that popularity is an indicator of rightness or wrongness. Just that I know a few people that used to be creationists who have adopted the ID explanation. So I suppose the statement was a bit bold but you'll likely allow that it is difficult not to generalize personal experience to the wider world.
I think one major mistake made in this debate is the assumption that those that disagree are doing it with malice. The notion that people are either being intentionally stupid or part of some secret cabal to force people to think a certain way seems like knee jerk reaction to me. To put a finer point on it: When I wanted to buy a BMW motorcycle my wife disagreed vehemently. But I never thought there was a plan on her part to deny me a right.. Hey wait a minute, that's a horrible example! She wasn't concerned about my safety cause once I bought it she told me we couldn't afford a helmet.
Anyway, I don't see why these arguments become uncivil so quickly. On the other hand if you prefer one cola over another we're going to have a problem. COKE forever b###hes!
