For God will save Zion. (Ps. 69:35)
Sub-subject: More lies.
Zion is the poetic name for Jerusalem and is mentioned over 160 times in the Bible (more than faith, hope and love) and including Jerusalem more than 1000 times. This is far more than any other named place in scripture so I guess that makes God a Zionist.
Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth. (Ps.50:2)
Today’s church thinks it’s a quaint ideal, even naïve, that modern day Israel is an accident without theological significance. It’s not a miracle the the Jews have returned to their homeland or that it is a sign of acharit hayamim. (Dan.28:64, 30:3-5)
Zion represents the rule and reign of God in the earth and therefore is synonymous with the “Kingdom of God.” The entire redemptive plan, including the coming of Messiah and our very salvation is wrapped up in it. (1Pet.2:6) It is the “Historiography” of God and perhaps explains why the world routinely mischaracterizes and condemns Zionism as a form of racism or injustice.
We should never forget Zion, “the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem” (Heb. 12:22)? “our mother” (Gal. 4:26). We are citizens, her exiles in this age. Doesn’t Zion represent our eschatological future—our home in the world to come? Even the new Heavens and Earth will be called Jerusalem—Zion in her perfection (Rev. 21). We are to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem” (Psalm 122:6), and we are told to “badger” the LORD until He makes Zion “the praise of the Earth” (Isa. 62:7).
Yeshua called Jerusalem the “City of the great King” (Psalm 48:2; Matt 5:35). It is the place where He was crucified, buried, resurrected, and from whence He ascended to Heaven. It is also the birthplace of the Church. And one day (soon) Yeshua will physically return to restore the throne of David there. At that time, all the New Covenant promises given to ethnic Israel will be literally fulfilled as the Kingdom of God is manifest upon the Earth (Luke 1:32-33; Zech. 8:3, 12:10-14; Micah 4:2-4; Rev. 20:2-6).
The sooner the better.
