That if France was to test its nuclear weapons in Europe, then a good deal more people would be affected by the tests than if they tested them on a remote Pacific atoll. If your govenment had been doing its job, the "Rainbow Warrior" would not have had a chance of leaving port: all of this happened in 1985 when Soviet divisions were a lot closer to the French border than Kiwis ever had to live with. I don't recall any Greenpeace people going up to Vladivostok to make the same protests.
Can't say that I blame the French. In fact, good on them. Glad they did it.
