I'm not sure I understand what your reference to red seeds is about... "I'm still not sold that the other one is a brackens. The seed pods on it don't have the red seeds"

To my knowledge, all Magnolia grandiflora cultivars have similar pods, with red seeds appearing when they are ripe - the only difference is the size of the pots, which are proportional to the flower size.

Were you thinking the magnolia in RI might not be a grandiflora?
