Since anyone who loves Jim Reeves' music has good taste -- and appreciates fine singing -- I'd like to introduce you to another vocalist of whom I am especially fond. I have admired Larry Ford for a long time and wanted to share with you an incredible, live performance he gave, that is posted on YouTube.
My not-so-secret passion is Southern Gospel music, and I have used a number of the best SG musicians and arrangers on my overdub projects.
This particular song may be one with which some of you are already familiar: "O What A Savior." Now granted, Mr. Ford is a very powerful singer who projects, and Mr. Reeves was an intimate, rich basso profundo. However, I believe Jim could have handled this song, but in a different way; the melody is so pretty.
Turn up your speakers and watch one of the finest singers alive today move the audience to such rapture by the "mere" application of his vocal technique. Musicians out there will recognize Larry Ford as a consummate vocalist at work...with incredible dynamics, perfect pitch, awesome breath control and impeccable phrasing.
