We have just learned of the passing of a wonderful friend, Mike Creasy. He was a devoted Jim Reeves fan who spent countless hours accumulating and sharing photos of Reeves and creatively colorizing many of them, etc. on his website. He also helped Julie and me with ours, and just before he was stricken with a stroke, in June 2014 he redesigned the opening graphic and link buttons of our site.
Reading his emails was always a pleasure because he was one witty guy! He was a kind man but had a low tolerance for buffoonery and was wry in his observations about some of the colorful characters on the Reeves fan scene.
For more than a year he had courageously battled both a stroke and cancer, and recently had a setback but his wife, June, to whom he was lovingly devoted, had advised just a few days ago she was expecting him to be able to come home.
Well, he went "home" -- but not his residence here on earth; to heaven instead.
This is a post that June made an hour ago. With great sadness and a sense of loss, Julie and I extend our heartfelt appreciation for all that Mike has done for us. I will personally miss our humorous email exchanges...
From June:
I want to thank everyone for all the love and support I have received the last two days. Mike would be so proud of all the love and great tributes everyone has expressed about him. I have known for years what a loving, caring, generous, funny guy he was and am glad so many others were able to enjoy and know these traits. My heart was truly broken last Wednesday as I watched him slip away but fighting until the end. It was the hardest thing I have ever done. He was truly a very gifted and talented man but very modest about his musical and artistic talents. I have felt very special to have been his love, soul mate, and wife for over 46 years. I want to especially thank my three "angel" friends Doxie, Kathy and Linda for their support Wednesday night and to my sister Linda, TJ , Brittany, Bill and Rev. Brewer for guiding me these past few days .I could not have survived without them. To my husband now in heaven I say I love you and always will and hope you enjoy the tributes everyone is giving you. You could always make me laugh and I know if you were here you would give me a great one-liner just before I walked into the funeral home today and I will be listening for it. Love you. and miss you Mike.
Yes, this is a sad day in the Jim Reeves circle. Mike was "one of a kind" and I am so fortunate to have met him and saw his humorous side in person! The Gath family will send condolences to June in her time of sorrow. Just be assured that Mike is "resting in peace" now. Always for Jim (and Mikey) Doris
