Just saw the news of yet another great release with more overdubs! This is a great year for Jim Reeves fans as far as new releases are concerned. At the same time, this year also marks a very sad day in music history, being that July 31st will be 50 years since we lost Jim. It is very tragic that Jim isn't here to see that his true fans haven't forgotten him, and that his music is still appreciated today. I also believe he would be very impressed with all the new overdubs being released by Larry and Voicemasters!
I have just listened to the audio samples of the new CD.. they are amazing. Needless to say, i've ordered it !!! With the 50th anniversary approaching, BMG seem strangly quiet as i have not heard of any special release from them.
Not only is Jim's record label strangely silent, so too is the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville. It's an utter disgrace, and yet another indication of the stench of politics that permeates Music City, that Jim Reeves is not being honored with a special exhibit the way Patsy Cline and others have been.
As far as I know, the only U.S. tribute to Jim will be held Friday July 25th in Henderson, TX (where Jim got his first job as an announcer, at KGRI). The Jim Reeves 50 Year Anniversary Tribute Show, hosted by his nephew John Rex Reeves, will be held at the Henderson Civic Theater at 7:00 p.m. It will feature a Talent Show. For contestants interested in performing or for ticket info, contact 281-852-8308.
Meanwhile, one of John Rex's cousins is publicly questioning on the web why she isn't making any money on the new CD releases, the implication being that royalties are owed her. This is the same woman who disclaimed any interest in financial matters and told us for years she was only trying to protect Mary's estate. I'll be anxious to see what she has planned to commemorate the 50th anniversary of her uncle's passing. Maybe a book burning?
A recent post on the web claimed the Shreveport-based Reeves family member was going to court yet this month to stop my book from circulation, and publicly warned me of "recrimination" for all my supposed "lies" about Jim.
As I have said before,RCA have Elvis,EVERYONE else isn't as important,Jim should have signed for a different label,or at least 'changed' labels when he saw that Elvis having more success (in the UK Elvis had 14 #1 hits up to 1963,Jim had to wait for his ONLY #1 until 1966,tells you something about RCA I think!).
