Jim,s music skills Posted by John Walker on October 9, 2009, 6:19 pm 92.41.78.103 Hi All, Here is something that from time to time i have pondered,did Jim ever have any musical training for example, if someone put a sheet of musical score in front of him was he able to read it well enough to get an idea of the value of a song that was in front of him? I know that Jim had the knack of coming up with good song material himself,as he had penned a couple of songs in his own right so i should imagine that he could get his ideas across in some manner but does anyone happen to know if our Jim had learned how to understand music in its written form, especially when he had to perform songs for the movie Kimberley Jim. He did not read music per se. This is not to say, however, that he was altogether unfamiliar with the nomenclature of sheet music. From being around pro musicians he also was conversant with some of the terminology they used. Incidentally, Jim Reeves penned more than just "a couple of songs." He was a surprisingly gifted songwriter, but would record demos of his songs, and rely on others to sit down and write the line score so it could be copyrighted.  Post a Response
