| Larry's Maligned Book

Sometimes people posting in forums overlook previous postings which have already answered their comments or questions. For example, it is obvious Larry's book is finished and in the process of final editing as any reader of this forum should have seen in this posting by Larry on July 15: 'Since I am determined not to charge any more for my book, it's "back to the drawing board." I need to cut stuff out. I have shown the book to my wife and daughter, and asked them to red line anything they think should be cut. So far, they haven't come up with any suggestions. I didn't put anything in the book if it wasn't needed. So it is extremely difficult to decide what to cut.' Although the book has been delayed several times, a good biographer makes every effort to achieve accuracy writing about an incredibly complex personality such as Jim Reeves, and new information must be documented and verified before being included even if it creates further delay. Now, most of the 'loose ends' have been resolved. Larry's book covers Jim's entire life with documented information available nowhere else and is destined to become the definitive biography of Jim Reeves. Larry is working diligently to get the book out this Fall. A previous book supposedly covering Jim bore no resemblance to the man I knew and traveled with on several tours. That author's portrayal of Jim's relationship with Mary or the Blue Boys as I knew them, Leo, Dean, Bobby Dyson and Mel Rogers, was a deliberate attempt to tear down Jim Reeves for the author's own purposes and not published until Mary was unable to defend either Jim or herself ( For example, I was with Jim when he discovered an airline had broken the neck of his guitar, and was he angry? Absolutely YES, but did he lose his cool? NO!! So much for his supposedly bad temper.) He was a real gentleman, and a good friend. Believe me, the book will be worth the wait.
