I'm getting better Posted by John Savoie on June 24, 2009, 4:09 pm 69.112.79.132 This has to be one of my least favorite songs that Jim released as a single. Years back, I read a biography by Bill Anderson. He claimed that RCA made a huge blunder by releasing "I'm Getting Better instead of the Anderson penned I Missed Me. Anderson felt his song was a better follow-up single after He'll have to Go. He felt it slowed Jim's momentum greatly and he spent the rest of career seeking a release that could rival He'll have to Go. 1961 proved to be a lackluster year for singles for Jim. I think it's beautiful and quite unique in the Reeves catalogue (both in lyrics, melody and performance.) Jim wrote it himself and it has it's own feeling of sadness and regret. I would even say it's one of Jim's best self penned songs. I first heard this song on the album "The Best of Jim Reeves" (1964) (the first LP of his I heard.)
