Your Top 5 Jim albums Posted by Swingin-Little-Guitar-Man on June 24, 2009, 12:13 am 82.47.173.172 Just out of interest, what's your top five Original Jim albums? Mine are: Tall Tales - fascinating stories beautifully delivered! Talkin' To Your Heart - Goes hand in hand with the above, but the narrations are very innovative Moonlight And Roses - Shame he wasn't around to enjoy the success of this gem. Jim in fine low register voice here. Good n Country - back to his roots but with a 60s sensibility. AND my all time favourite: Girls I Have Known It's a real classy collection and the arrangements are sheer perfection. Excepting the velvet Anna-Marie, Jims voice is more, well, delicate here and the light jazz arrangements really suit his voice. Tracks like Everywhere You Go and Till The End Of The World from the same period carry similar arrangements too and it's an area he never really returned to, which is a great shame. Chock full of gems minus the strings. Distant Drums - The 1st album I ever heard by Jim. I was 10 yrs old when I heard it. I became an instant fan. Featured many of his singles that were not on any albums before. Moonlight and Roses - Showed that Jim could go toe to toe w/ any Pop Crooner in that era. Maybe a sign of what direction he might of went in the future. Countryside - Again albums of gems w/o the strings  Post a Response

Such an interesting question as yours hasn't been asked on this forum in a long time. Thank you! Picing just 5 albums is hard but here are some of my favourites: Good 'N' Country - a classic 'modern' country album featuring some of the first recordings made with Pete Drake's "talking" steel. We Thank Thee - This religious album will always be a favourite of mine with Jim's heartfelt performances of beautiful songs/hymns with a message. Tall Tales and Short Tempers - Great old and newer country and western songs featuring songs with a story. The story was made popular by Johnny Horton ca. 1957-60. Jim had a hit single in 1959 with the Danny Dill song "Partners". Moonlight and Roses - Crooner classics performed to perfection. "Roses" was a hit in the 1940's for Dick Haymes. The Jim Reeves Way - features Jim at his best. His version of the Dick Haymes 1940's hit "You'll Never Know" is classic. I love this album. It even features Jim's beautiful rendition of "Beautiful Dreamer" - "Bolandse Noointjie" in Afrikaans. There are many more albums which could have been included. I'd want to start threads on every single album he released. It would be interesting to read more extensive reviews of all the albums. Even  Post a Response
