But You Love Me Daddy Posted by Denise on February 26, 2009, 11:43 pm 24.32.0.160 Just wondering if there's a recording of this song that can be purchased on CD. I noted it was recorded at least 2 different times with different people with Jim, i.e. a child and a lady on another recording. I happened to hear them both. The child's name is Stevie Moore and the woman is Dottie Dillard, who was one of the Anita Kerr Singers. The name of the CD is "The Jim Reeves Connection" and I believe it is still available on amazon.com. Some of Jim's songs had what they called "answer records" that various artists recorded afterward, and this CD features both Jim's original song and the answer record. It also includes a lot of Jim's duets with other artists like Dottie West, Deborah Allen, Patsy Cline and the artists mentioned above. A great CD and one I think you will enjoy.  Post a Response

I have been looking for it so I'll try another website that had his DVD of him in Africa. They had some albums of his but I wasn't looking for that one at the time. I just checked for you and they do have it there to order. Glad you enjoy the fan forum. I hope you do get to go to Carthage soon. I was there with my parents when I was about 16. That was in 1968, which was only about 4 years after Jim died. We went to the gravesite and it was very beautiful. I have some pictures that my Dad took of me and my Mom there.  Post a Response

Did you ever go the museum in TN? I saw a film from the UK about someone's personal tour Mary gave to them. They filmed it and it was in 4 parts. I enjoyed seeing everything and hearing what she had to say. What a courageous woman and so full of devotion to her late husband! I also saw where Mary was buried in Spring Hill Cemetery in Madison, TN and Dean's headstone as well. I was not aware Mary had Alzheimer's. That is very sad. But, I am enjoying learning and getting to know them even better, sad with the good. I wish I knew someone who knew them personally. I guess that's always been a lifelong dream; to meet someone famous I adored. When I was very young, about 3rd gr. I wrote to William Shatner of Star Trek. His agency sent back a copy of a picture (fan mail I'm sure). I never did get to meet him but maybe I will get to meet someone before I die. Many have already gone. I admired John Wayne and James Stewart. I wasn't aware Jim Reeves knew Minnie Pearl. I'll have to tell you a story: when I was about 5, we went to a rodeo (I think that's what it was)in the colliseum in Lubbock, TX, where I was born. Anyway, Minnie Pearl was there and walked around the arena in front of a vehicle. She was waving and shouting "Howdy" like she does. I ran down to the bottom of the row of seats (about 6ft above the floor by the rail) and hollered for her. She came and took me in her arms and carried me around a bit and we waved together. She took me back after a few minutes. I don't know why I remembered that moment, maybe because she actually took me and it was so thrilling. I didn't know she knew Jim. That may be my only connection. If so, then, maybe it will have to do. Does Doris Gath live in MN? She knew them well. It would be wonderful to get to meet her and just chat, don't you think? I notice she writes here occasionally. Did Jim and Mary know someone from east Tx by the name of Tucker?? I'll tell you why I ask if so. Denise  Post a Response

I'm sure you will enjoy it! I enjoyed everything you wrote, especially the little story about Minnie Pearl...you're very lucky to have met her! Yes, Jim and Minnie knew each other well and were both members of the Grand Ole Opry. They also played at an all-star country concert at Carnegie Hall, along with Patsy Cline, Marty Robbins, Faron Young and Grandpa Jones back in 1961. My Mother and older brother went to the show, but I was only about 9 years old at the time and wasn't old enough to appreciate Jim's music yet. I never did get to go to the museum, but I called the gift shop there a few times to order some of Jim's LP's, and Mary actually answered the phone! I was so lucky to get to talk to her those few times! I've seen pictures on the internet of both Mary's and Dean's gravesites, but have never been to either in person. I'm not familiar with the name Tucker that you mentioned, but yes, Doris does post comments on the forum here now and then. I can't remember exactly where she lives, but if you ask her on the forum, I'm sure she'll answer you. I've e-mailed her quite a few times, and she is a very nice person.  Post a Response

It's really a small world when you learn everyone's just in the same boat, just out at different times on the water so-to-speak. That's neat you got to talk to Mary. How exciting it must have been for you! I hope to go to TN to see my friends in Joelton. We usually see ea other once a yr. It's been a bit longer. So, we're planning to go this summer. I wasn't aware Madison was so close to Joelton.I'm sure I'll drive over there to 400 Westchester. Just info, but, have you ever seen something or been somewhere and felt you've been there before somehow but couldn't place it? Well, that's what happened when I saw the picture of Jim and Mary's house in the photo. I just got this sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach, like I had been there or at least seen it. I can't figure it out. Anyway, just a thought. Well, maybe I can get up the courage to send a message to Mrs. Gath. You know, while I was listening to Mary talk in the recording at the museum, I could hear the birds and insects in the grass and trees behind her. I could just feel the humidity in the stillness. I'm really glad Mr. Jordan put info on the forum re. Mr. Newberry's acquisitions to share with us who are devoted to Jim and Mary so. That is very kind. It is a strange sensation. Could it be you've seen another house that might have looked liked Jim and Mary's? Hope you get to TN this summer, like you're hoping to do. There's another interesting little story that I forgot to tell you about Mary. One of the LP's that I ordered from the museum was Jim's "A Touch Of Velvet" LP, which it turned out they were out of. Sometime later, I received an unexpected package in the mail, and it was from Mary. In the package, I found the LP, with a letter from Mary saying that she had sent me one of her own personal copies because she didn't want to dissapoint me! I couldn't believe it! That was so great of her to do that, and I sent her a note of thanks. She really was a sweet person.  Post a Response

I'm sure you still have that letter too. I received my CDs I ordered, yesterday. I still am waiting on the one you suggested on Amazon. I also received a DVD of the movie Kimberly Jim. I can hardly wait to see it. We're out of town this weekend and will be back home tomorrow. Hope to visit Carthage next weekend. I can hardly wait! We're about 1.5 hrs from it.
