New book eagerly awaited!... Posted by Mike Slater on November 30, 2008, 3:07 pm 64.12.116.196 I was very excited to see the new info about the book being released soon! I would also like to say that way back in the beginning when this site first showed a picture of what the cover would look like, I wasn't really crazy about the picture or the design. However, the new info that was posted here recently shows different cover art that is absolutely breathtaking! Great picture of Jim and nice design and colors! I prefer this one much more and I hope that this is the one that will be used when it is published! I'm assuming, Larry, that maybe you took another look at the original cover and decided it needed improving. Am I right? In any case, I'm really looking foward to the book, which will be THE BIG EVENT of 2009 for me, assuming it is out by then.  Post a Response

They pertained to Jim's fatal plane crash. These paragraphs alone are worth the price of the entire book. Trust me! This book will do more to revive Jim's legacy than anything in the last 40 years. Larry's writing ability is every bit as good as Jim's ability to sing -- and, believe me, I mean that as the ultimate compliment. I only hope that it receives the attention and sales that a work of this magnitude deserves. I am so pleased that Larry has taken up the challenge to produce what I am sure will be an accurate and detailed account of Jim’s life that will refute the lies, assertions and accusations produced in Michael Streissguth’s fictitious work of fantasy ‘Like a Moth to a Flame’! This book has been needed for many years (and maybe needed to have been written some twenty years before as so many of Jims older followers who would have loved this book have now passed away) and it is to be hoped that it will produce renewed interest in both Jim and his music some forty plus years after his sad and untimely passing. The Streissguth book was available from Waterstones here in the UK and it is to be hoped that Larry’s book will be available worldwide from good outlets to get the maximum interest and recognition I am sure it will deserve. We look forward to its imminent publication and I too agree with Mike that the cover design shown is powerful in its simplicity. We look forward to it’s rolling off the presses very soon! When the book gets out, it will take quite awhile for fans to wade through it, because at 608 pages, there is A LOT of material in there. I think, however, that Jim Reeves's life story is compelling enough to sustain the reader's interest page to page. One of my friends overseas told me on the phone today that he had heard the rumor that several of the more notorious hoarders of Reeves memorabilia were sitting on some really good stuff, and would not reveal any of it until my book gets out. So the story goes, they are doing that deliberately to try to frustrate my research efforts, apparently out of jealousy. (I know I've upset a few of them because I have tracked down so many things they wish they'd gotten ahold of first). I had a good laugh about that one. For one thing, they could not possibly have all the information I have gleaned from hundreds of sources, many of whom have never been interviewed by anyone else, and some of whom are now deceased. When I first read on a foreign website that these collectors were bragging that they would share some information about Jim after I got my book out (a boast that was posted several years ago), I had to chuckle. Because it has always been my plan to print a limited number of initial copies, and then do any updates as are needed before printing a second, third, or fourth editions as more orders come in. I am surprised that some of these devious collectors didn't stop to think about this possibility! So if something good comes out that is really important, I'll simply put it in the revised edition. No problem. That is the way many authors handle their books, and it says something about these crazy hoarders that they must not be literate enough to know that. Look at what Ellis Nassour did. He's the author of "Patsy Cline: Honky Tonk Angel." His first edition came out in 1993, and he just released a new edition in 2008 -- 15 years later! It contains 50 pages of new revelations about Patsy. New printing technology allows shorter-run editions to be quickly assembled on a cost effective basis. So that's what I intend to do.  Post a Response

I'm sure there are many things about Jim that have never been heard before, but if you continued to hold up publication on your book because of this, the book would probably never come out. It was hard waiting as long as we have, but now, of course, the book will be two or three times bigger than it would have been, had it been published much earlier.
