| Four Walls, I Love You Because & Songs That Introduced You to Country Music

Hi Everyone, Sorry I haven't been active on here as much as I usually am, but I've been busy both at home and work and haven't had too much time to blog with you all. I need to tell you that something interesting happened today with our radio friend Mr. Bucks Braun, and his program today and it is worthy of note for Jim Reeves Fans everywhere. Yesterday, Bucks polled listners on who was the first singer or act that got them interested in Country Music, and I didn't get to talk to him but left a message telling him the story that I have told before on the tribute show about how I heard Jim's He'll Have To Go on WGCL and oldies station in Cleveland circa 1982 when I lived near there, and worked for an aerospace company which is now part of Goodrich Aerospace. Well today he asked the listeners to call in and tell him the song that would recommend to anyone to get them to be interested and I picked my sentimental favorite, Four Walls, which was my first Jim Reeves record acquired by me in a trade with the kid across the street at age 13 (Blue Moon by the Marcels was the record I had to give up), right after Jim was declared missing. We were camping out in a tent in the side yard and heard the news on one of our old RCA Victor 1-T-1, 6 Transistor radios (we each had one, but different colors). Ironically this is the exact date that Four Walls hit the Billboard Country Singles Chart in 1957. Someone else in the area, however, unbeknownst to me made the first call into Bucks before 8 AM, and picked Jim's version of I Love You Because, and that was the first record he played on his special between 11 and Noon EDT, showcasing ths songs that listners called in about. He will continue tomorrow, and Four Walls will be on the list as I didn't call until later today and he doesn't like to play more than one song from a particular artist unless it is their birthday or in Jim's case the anniversary of his crash, which is when I get to join him for his annual Jim Reeves Tribute Show. Now if you try to listen tomorrow on the internet @myclassiccountry.com, you may find that they are not currently webcasting. The reason for that is they moved the Classic Country Radio studios four blocks to the East down Second St in Xenia OH on 18-20 April, and they are now at Xenia and 2nd St, only 1 block from the exact center of Downtown Xenia in a new broadcast center with a lot of new equipment and the internet connection they have there has a few bugs in it and they are working on fixing it. Anyway, Bucks had more songs than he could use on today's broadcast so day 2 will be tomorrow. I believe we are going to do the tribute show again this year, and I'll let you know more about the theme this year when we get closer to the date. So, lets take our own poll here: What was the first record that got you interested in Country Music? I had a lot of other country crossover records when I started acquiring them in 1959, but got them with all the other ones the juke box man across the street had so I didn't really know the difference then. What did Ray Charles say? "There are only two kinds of music, good music and bad music," right? Regards, Don
