There's a magnificent edition of Jim Reeves released a few years ago by the very respected label, The Bear Family Records. This is an LP-sized box containing 16 CDs with about 450 Jim's recordings made by him for Abbot, RCA, etc., all demo recordings, all posthumous overdubs, mant previously unissued tracks, plus a de-luxe detailed biography with lots of rare photos, more than 120 pages, complete discography etc. It's an expensive edition called "Jim Reeves. Welcome To My World", about $ 450. But it's a treasure for all who worship Jim as I do. Therefore, I purchased it "without a shadow of a doubt" as sonn as I discovered it, making it a final touch to my Jim Reeves' collection, with some songs I've never heard before. However, while we can certainly agree that this Bear collection (which was released many years ago) is well worth having, it is important to note that it does NOT include "all demo recordings" or "all posthumous overdubs." If you look elsewhere on my site, you will see the CDs being offered for sale by VoiceMasters, each of which contains previously unreleased vocals by Jim. In fact, VM has turned up a number of new songs that Bear didn't even know existed. The Bear set did not include any of Mary Reeves' overdubs except those which charted as singles. There are lots of overdubs that were contained in albums which they did not put in their CD boxed set, and so remain unavailable in CD format. -- Julie  Post a Response

As much as I like the set as a whole the other overdubs were a significant, and disappointing, omission - whilst one CD contains "demo" recordings that are mostly of very poor quality. When I compared the list of songs I still don't have with those in the Bear edition, I could't find the missing ones. I guess the same is true about the overdubs. I still don't have such ones as for instance "My Life Is a Gypsy", "Fall In and Follow", "Old Fashioned Rag", "Could I Be Falling In Love", may be more. The search will be on! Anyway, it was as usual a pleasure to talk about Jim. Thank you. "My Life Is A Gypsy" is sung by Madeline Usher and the other two are orchestra with chorus. These are all from Jim's movie "Kimberley Jim" and the soundtrack CD is still very much available. I don't believe "Could I Be Falling In Love" was ever available as an overdub but this song is on the Bear set and the "Kimberley Jim" CD. --Previous Message-- : You're certainly right Julie. I fully agree that RCA had to do the job the Bear had done. But I guess it is very habitual in this our life when a performing person or his legacy is squeezed and exploited to the bone and then just thrown away or forgotten. I don't mean Jim of course, he'll be always remembered as one of the greatest, no matter how RCA or anyone else chooses to interpret a meaning of his greatness.
