Jim's name in songs Posted by Steve Drummond on January 24, 2008, 9:54 am 74.197.33.115 Anyone recall Jim's name being mentioned in any song other than "Yesterday Once More" which Moe Bandy released in 1980. I can't recall if any versions of "Hillbilly Heaven" ever mentioned Jim and right off I don't remember any tribute songs released after his death.  Post a Response

Re: Jim's name in songs Posted by Mike Slater on January 27, 2008, 10:30 am, in reply to "Jim's name in songs" 205.188.117.201 I'm surprised that no one here has mentioned the CD called "The Jim Reeves Connection", which is very much available on amazon.com or cdwolf.com This CD features at least 3 Jim Reeves tribute songs, including 2 versions of "Gentleman Jim" by Faron Young and Charlie Rich, and it also features some of Jim's recordings along with the answer versions that were released afterwards, such as "He'll Have To Stay". It also features many of the duets Jim recorded with Dottie West, Deborah Allen and the faked duets with Patsy Cline. The name eludes me, we have the record at home in MN. It seems like it might have been Hank Cochran. Does anybody know for sure? It is a very sad song, especially hearing it right after Jim was gone. I know I cried listening to it. Re: Jim's name in songs Posted by Gianluca Cludi (GIANLUCA CLUDI) on January 28, 2008, 11:04 am, in reply to "Jim's name in songs" 151.26.220.37 On "Nashville rebel" (avaiable on DVD from Bear Family records),a 1966 movie starring Waylon Jennings (with live performances from Loretta Lynn, Tex Ritter, Porter Wagoner, Faron Young, Sonny James and others), Jim is mentioned both on "Hillbilly heaven" performed live by Tex Ritter and on "Christmas at the Opry" performed live by Loretta Lynn with the Wilburn brothers (with a narration in the middle similar to "Hillbilly heaven"). Even Patsy Cline and other deceased (until 1966) country stars are mentioned on both these two songs. (This color movie also contains scenes shots at Nashville's Rca studio B with a little apparition of Chet Atkins as A&R man).  Post a Response

I noticed the mentions of Jim just as you stated. It is an entertaining movie to those of us who remember and enjoy the "old" country music of that era. I especially enjoyed seeing "Cousin Jody" both in-character and out-of-character. On it is included the track "The Country Hall Of Fame" in which he refers , amongst many others, to "Gentleman Jim". There were several covers of Jims hits, along with two original songs paying homage to him, "Out Where the Bright Lights Are Glowing", which was the title of the album, and "Dear Friend". These are both wonderful songs with very heartfelt sentiments.
