I have a rather crowded house this weekend due to the holidays, but was aforded a bit of time to preview the new VM project. I believe that "Lonesome Waltz" has been something of a fan favorite since it was released in 1968. The original RCA overdub was not a very good one, but the VM production team has certainly managed to take the proper corrective action. This new version is a crystal clear country waltz. Simple accoustic instrumentation back up a flawless Reeves vocal. This is a beautiful song and easily the standout on the album. I also agree with Julie that "Rudolph" is worth the price of the CD. It is good to hear Jim sing with Anita Kerr again. I never cared for "He Will" until I heard this version. The production is clean and works well with the Reeves vocal. The RCA version was just the opposite. Again, it is another standout presentation. The title tune is a very different Jim Reeves offering. I did not care for the demo when it was released. I thought that Jim sounded too old to be singing a song about a teenage romance, but this fully produced version has changed my mind. I love the sax, in fact, I wish there had been a solo. Jim's vocal up against the sax just seems natural. The entire production is lovingly put together. There are some songs that I like better than others, but each tune is a Reeves gem. --Previous Message-- : I just finished listening to the new VM cd : "Shepherd of Love". It had been : awhile since the last cd but it was : definitely worth the wait! I recall the : first time I heard the RCA take on : "Distant Drums". Quite frankly, : even though the vocal was fantastic, what : RCA did with/to it wasn't. The VM treatment : finally gives the vocal what it needed and : is, in my opinion, one of the standouts on : this cd. I never particularly cared for : "I Love You Because" but I must : say I really, really like the VM version. : "He'll Have To Go" is one of my : favorite JR songs but I had heard it so many : times, I didn't think I really needed to : hear it again. I was wrong. "Pride : Goes Before A Fall" is another : standout. I could go on and on but anyone : who has ordered the cd will find out for : themselves what I am talking about. The cd : is fantastic. I know the material will : eventually run out, but I hope not for quite : awhile (where is all this material coming : from?). Anyway, kudos to Larry and VM. :
