P.S.: The # of songs in the Abbott Catalog in the post above is incorrect, 36 is the correct # and 3 of those songs had two different versions on the Bear Family set. I didn't have the oppertunity to look it up and shot from the hip on my last post, sorry about that! Regards, Don --Previous Message-- : Bob, : My understanding is that RCA bought the : 78 song catalog in 1956, but Abbott had : rights to release any songs that Jim : recorded with Abbott that were not released : yet by them. Also, I have seen Gold : Standard RCA copies of Bimbo that read that : they were recorded in 1956, but there is no : record of it happening in the session lists : that were part of the Bear Family 16 CD set. : One song that was rerecorded is Where Does A : Broken Heart Go? that Jim wrote and put : Mary's on it as writer, so she owned rights : to it. It redone with an orchestral : arrangement and was released on the Distant : Drums LP/CD, and a radio version is on the : RCA 2CD set the Jim Reeves Essential : Collection from 1993. I'm not sure of the : dates of the later recordings thet RCA : released on that song. Also, RCA : International in Germany released two LPs of : Abbott Material Titled Jim Reeves the Abbott : Recordings Vol 1 and 2 in 1982, with the Vol : 1 having the same artwork as the original : Jim Reeves Sings LP that Abbott issued in : 1956, the one that is worth up to $2000, : depending on condition. : : Regards, : Don : : --Previous Message-- : : Don, did Jim re-record his earlier his : earlier Abbot songs for RCA or did RCA buy : the catalog, or both? : : Bob : --Previous Message-- : To All, : Don't know that I'll get a chance tomorrow : to post this so I doing it now. Another : historic occasion will be noted in the : fabled career of Gentleman Jim Reeves, as : tomorrow will be the 50th ammiversary of : Jim's first recording session at the famed : RCA Studio "B" on the original : Music Row, on December 12, 1957. It used to : be 1610 Hawkins Street, but it is called : something else now that I believe has Music : Row in the title. It was one of the first : sessions there, as the studio opened in : November of 1957. He recorded 3 songs, the : first two were single records: I Love You : More, RCA 45rpm 47-7171 #8 in June of 1958, : and Theme of Love (I Love To Say I Love You) : the flip side of Blue Boy RCA 45rpm 47-7266 : and Wishful Thinking, and later all three : appeared on the LPM/LSP 2223 LP He'll Have : To Go. I sent a blurb on this to Bucks Braun : earlier and he may be playing one or all of : these songs on his show tomorrow on the I's : Have It WBZI AM 1500 Xenia OH WKFI AM 1090 : Wilmington WEDI 1130 Eaton and : @www.myclassiccountry.com : : Regards, : Don : : : : :
