In Britain during the first seven months of 1964 Jim had two Top Ten singles (‘I love you because’ and ‘I won’t forget you’) and two Top Twenty LPs (‘Good ‘n’ country’ and ‘Gentleman Jim’). But even so, what happened in the British charts after his death on July 31st is unprecedented. Sales of all his current and new releases rocketed and he dominated the charts. The peak of the domination was, as Don Streeter stated in his earlier message, September 24th. Below is ‘The Record Retailer’ LP Best Sellers Chart of the day:1 (1) A hard day’s night Beatles
2 (3) Moonlight and roses Jim Reeves
3 (2) The Rolling Stones Rolling Stones
4 (7) Five faces of Manfred Mann Manfred Mann

I have listed the whole LP chart to show the strength of the competition. The figures in brackets are the previous week’s placings.
The LPs ‘He’ll have to go and other favourites’ and ‘The intimate Jim Reeves’ also had short runs in the chart.
The ‘Twelve songs of Christmas’ LP was released mid November and immediately started a 17 week chart run peaking at No.3. The single ‘There’s a heartache following me’ entered the charts on November 6th for a 13 week run peaking at No.6. This was not bad for a song which was taken from the ‘Good ‘n’ country’ LP which had been in the charts for 35 weeks.
Jim was the British No.1 Singles Chart Artist and the No.1 LP Chart Artist for 1964.
