Dear friends, Well the last hit for Jim Reeves' living career happend on July 11th 1964 (43 years ago last Wednesday). I Guess I'm Crazy hit the Billboard Country Chart (Top Country Singles Chart), and it was also the last hit that Jim saw in the Top 40 (it hit there on this date in 1964) in his lifetime. It also marked both the end of his living career and the start of his posthumous one, as it subsequently became the first #1 hit of his world record 6 posthumous #1s. The song hit the top spot on the charts on Aug 29, 1964. It stayed there for 7 weeks, which made it the #87 hit of all time country wise according to Joel Whitburn's Billboard Book of Top 40 Country Hits Second Edition which came out last Fall and covers records from Jan 8, 1944 through Dec 31, 2005. I Guess I'm Crazy was on the chart 26 weeks, in the top 40 for 24 weeks and the top 10 for 18 weeks, and was just behind Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash on the all time Billboard Country Top 100 Singles 1944-2005. It was the third best chart record for Jim, just behind Four Walls which was #1 for 8 weeks in 1957 about 50 years ago ending this month (it was #1 off and on from the last week in May (May 27) to some time in July. The song was written by Werley Fairburn and was recorded on Columbia Records by Werley sometime around 1954-55 when Jim and Werly were on the Lousiana Hayride together. It was another case of Jim taking a good song recorded by someone else that didn't even chart and making a huge hit out of it.Trivia Question: What were the other Top 40 Jim Reeves Hits that were recorded first by others? The answer will amaze you! Regards, Don
