Lest anyone forget, John Rex sided with Ed Gregory -- even sitting with him in the courtroom -- and actively opposed the efforts of his cousin, Lani Arnold, to prevent the sale of the Reeves estate to a convicted bank fraud felon. John despised Mary Reeves because he felt she should have backed his aspiration to become Jim's heir apparent. But as Mary herself told my husband, Larry, years ago, "John Rex is no Jim Reeves." There was bad blood between Mary and John. WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU? Fans who have visited my website for a long time may remember how people wrote in one year to report that when John Rex emceed a so-called Jim Reeves tribute show in Carthage, not a single Reeves recording was played! Had the Reeves family ever presented a united front in opposing Ed Gregory's early efforts to get his hands on Jim and Mary's estate, chances are Gregory would have never succeeded. John had hopes that Gregory would book him at his carnivals. But Ed had the last laugh, because he hired Bill White -- Jim's nephew by marriage -- instead. Despite how Bill sold his aunt Mary down the river, by signing Mary's assets over to Gregory before they were even paid for, the fact is that Bill White can sing Jim Reeves songs A LOT better than John Rex. Please tell me anything constructive that John Rex Reeves has ever done to preserve his Uncle Jim's irreplaceable recordings and memorabilia. How ironic that one of the people who did the LEAST to protect Jim's legacy -- and in fact, tried to undermine those who were working so hard to defend it -- is now lining his pockets by paying tribute to his Uncle. Obviously, Jim Reeves' music is timeless and John Rex has the familiy name to exploit. So fans innocently attend his shows because they like to hear Jim's wonderful music performed live. Most of them probably don't know the background behind this guy. He must have a lot of people fooled. -- Julie
