In fact, on December 31, 1963, Ted spent the day with Jim and Mary Reeves. They looked at a ranch that was for sale near Beeville, TX and also visited the famous O'Brien ranch nearby, consisting of 15,000 acres.
As the day wore on, Jim and Mary concluded their visit with Ted and returned to San Antonio where they spent New Year's Eve with their good friends, John and Helen Lee.
Ted has many fond memories of being with Jim, and recalled in our conversation today how one time they drove Ted's 1962 Chevy to a lake where they did some hiking. There was a stone lodge there that had a jukebox. Some teenager recognized Jim and pretty soon they were surrounded with other young people, each seeking an autograph from Reeves. Ted was impressed that Jim took the time to "interview" each one of them, ask each about their life, etc. He showed genuine interest in these youths.
That was Jim Reeves. Always accessible to his fans. Many of Ted's treasured memories are in my 672 page book, "Jim Reeves: His Untold Story."
