Link: ELVIS: THE NEW RECORDINGS
USA Today, a nationwide newspaper, carried a story (http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/music/2015/08/04/elvis-goes-orchestral-new-album/31068427/) regarding a project I have known about for several weeks. Sony is going to do their own overdub project on Elvis.
If this was such an original idea on their part, why didn't they have it ready to go for Presley's 80th birthday in January like I did? It seems a wee bit coincidental they are now doing an overdub project after seeing fan clubs around the world selling ours (often for DOUBLE the list price), and also watching our CD reach Amazon's best-seller list.
So Priscilla, Elvis's ex-wife, thinks updating his sound is a good idea huh? Wonder why she hasn't endorsed the one we did?
BTW, the notion of pairing him with a huge symphony is a bit bizarre IMHO. Most of his music doesn't lend itself to that treatment. My objective was to showcase his voice by bringing it forward so you could hear him better, which I did on every track. And I got rid of extraneous backgrounds that interfere with that, and substituted tasteful new arrangements. My focus was on Elvis THE SINGER.
Many fans have commented it's like hearing Elvis sing in your living room.
Want to know why Sony is going to LONDON to do overdubs? It's a little secret Mary Reeves told me about years ago: it's because it's CHEAPER than recording in the U.S. The musicians cost less over there. Mary at one time considered overdubbing some of Jim's material in England, where she often visited, but ultimately rejected the idea because, she told me, she didn't think they would capture "the right feel."
All of this is tied into Sony's battle to suppress my CD by repeatedly filing DMCA complaints against it even though they keep LOSING, and lost again this week. It's laughable. Big corp. Sony is afraid of my little indie label? That's hilarious.
Originally they were going to have their Elvis overdub CD released in early Sept. but I see it's been pushed back to Oct. 30th. Thank you Sony! It just gives us more chance to sell ours without any distractions.
