In my opinion, in this age of high definition, it would have been most fitting to have made a Blu-ray release of material like this. Of course, the footage is far from high def, but proper video mastering by experts could have made everything look relatively stunning on today's big-screen TVs, more so than what DVDs are capable of delivering.
