I just received my copy of "The Great Jim Reeves", and so far, I have listened to two discs- The "Gospel" disc and the "Spoken word and Folk" disc. They are both fantastic, and the overdubs are wonderful, with Jim's voice sounding so clear- as if he just recorded these songs yesterday! My favorite gospel song of Jim's has always been "Oh Gentle Shepherd", and I couldn't wait to hear the new overdub on this one. I was not disappointed, that's for sure! I loved the strings that were added to the song. I could go on and on about so many of the tracks here. Each and every one was beautifully re-mastered, and the over dubs are nothing short of first rate! You can feel the love and care that went into producing these tracks, and as usual, Larry and Voicemasters have out done themselves! I also read the book from cover to cover, and it was amazing! Both Larry and Sara deserve a lot of credit for the excellent work and research that they did to make this book as informative and enjoyable as they did! I loved some of the rare photos that were included, especially the one of Jim sitting on the table without his shoes with the Blue Boys all around him, and the photos of Jim in the studio with Floyd Cramer and Chet Atkins. Some of the photos in the book are from Larry's biography on Jim, but here, we get them in color! That was also a nice touch! I'll be posting more comments as I listen to the rest of the set- but so far, I love it! If you haven't ordered "The Great Jim Reeves" yet, then you should do so right away! Anyone who considers themself a true Jim Reeves fan will love everything about this set!
