I'm sure no one reading this will assume that I am an unbiased observer, but I still want to add my opinion regarding the new DVD, the "Jim Reeves Anthology," that features 22 complete live TV/film performances by Jim plus video "extras."
I've finally had a chance to look at the finished product this morning and it is nothing short of amazing. Everything from the first-class packaging of the DVD, to the colorful and informative booklet inside, to the line-up of video is very impressive.
Until you get your copy, you don't know what you're missing. It's like being transported back to another era by a magical time machine when you can actually SEE as well as hear Jim croon so beautifully.
A few of those clips on Youtube wet your appetite, but they are small and only a very pale version of how nice the material is in this new DVD set. The material in "Anthology" is bigger, with a much better picture and the sound is awesome: rich and clear! The combination gives it a "you are there" feel. You can easily imagine you are tuned into a TV show watching Jim perform as he does it live. Jim does not lip sync on any of these.
And the video extras are truly exciting: The footage in Oslo (in addition to the concert itself) will blow you away. VERY interesting, behind-the-scenes about the tour. Leo Jackson looks so good talking about Jim and then playing a Reeves song in concert as he backs Arne Benoni singing "I Won't Forget You," all in color. I cried all the way through this. 99.9999% of Jim's fans have not seen any of this. Arne also analyzes Jim's singing ability.
Then there is also the video documentary of rare pictures and film as Jim talks about his life that was created exclusively for this DVD.
Fans, this is truly what all of you have been waiting for all these years! NEW video on Jim. And at only $25 for the DVD, this is an unbelievable bargain. Compare that to the $179 Bear charges for a boxed set that has stuff by other artists you don't even care about! (Or the very poor quality Bear "Town Hall Party" DVD).
Jim's live performances on the "Ozark Jubilee" -- among the material never previously released until now -- are great. This includes Jim singing "Highways Are Happy Ways" -- A NEW SONG as well as Jim doing other new songs plus some duets with other female stars!
Supplies really are limited and when they are sold out, you'll be out of luck.
