Hi John,
I remember this story very well. If memory serves me right, this was recounted in the seven-part series called "Jim Reeves: The Man and his Music" which was broadcast by BBC Radio 2 over here in the UK in the early 1980's. I think Leo Jackson was the guy being interviewed at the time.
Another incident Mary Reeves once recounted was when Jim was constantly harrassed by a drunk asking for a certain song, which Jim had never heard of, and Jim, being polite as usual, promised that h would learn the song and play it for him next time he was there. However, the man persisted and got more aggressive so jim 'bopped' him on the head with the microphone and a 'free for all' fight broke out in the audience. I dont know if Larry can clarify this any further.
