Gordon Stoker is one of those guys who speaks before thnking, and has come out with some serious Bull over the years. I have seen and heard many interviews with Gordon aboutr Elvis in particular, and he always seems to exaggerate situations and stories, an make things up that don't tie in with anyone else's versions.
On the Jim documentary GENTLEMAN JIM REEVES: The Story Of A Legend, Gorden refers to Jim as "An old maid", so I believe the quote - it sounds like something he'd say.
I met Hugh Jarrett, the Jordanaires bass singer many years ago and spoke to him about Jim. He loved working with him and said he was a true pro. I remember him saying that Jim's live in the studio vocals sounded like they had been fully mixed - he had an incredible timbre even in a dry, reverb free room.
