The death of pop star Michael Jackson has already resulted in a lot of stories putting his musical legacy into the proper context. There's an interesting essay on huffingtonpost.com by R.J. Eskow, reflecting on the global reach and power of music.
Eskow asks: "Was Michael Jackson the first global pop star?" And he answers that question by noting that "Crowds in India mourned the death of country crooner Jim Reeves in 1964."
